Werner Goetzl, Germany
"What has been the best thing about the trip? The country, the river, the people on the Trip and the guides and camp staff - oh and the fantastic fishing! Both myself and my dad had a fantastic experience and would not have missed it for the world. We made new friends and met some wonderful people.I want to go back - excellent fishing. Would I book another mahseer trip with Angling Travel? Yes Would I book a different trip with Angling Travel? Yes!"
Mark Couldrick, Cullompton
"The best thing about the trip was meeting a friendly group of people keen to enjoy the fishing and have a good time... A perfect camp for the type of holiday... very enjoyable fishing in a great setting... the ghillies were very helpful. The information was clear and very helpful, especially for someone going for the first time."

John's experiences with mahseer goes back almost twenty years now and during
that time we've made a score of trips to the Asian sub-continent. Mahseer fishing
is never going to be easy - that's one of its appeals. India has developed
massively over the last few decades and, of course, its population has continued
to expand. Both these pressures have affected watercourses and the fish that
live in them dramatically. Accordingly, one of the big tasks in India is
to find rivers - or stretches of water - where mahseer stocks still hold
up. We believe that we've located two stunning holiday areas in the south of India,
a country which pulses with colour and vitality.
The Angling Travel Mahseer Expedition to India last January was an unqualified success. The fishing was quite fantastic! Numbers of fish caught were astronomic. Several fish of seventy-plus were taken along with a score of forty, fifty and sixty pounders. Long term client and friend, Alan Felstead, achieved the supreme feat of landing eight mahseer over thirty-five pounds in eight consecutive casts. Stunning seventy-pounders were caught by David Lawless and Ian Miller, with Kevin Andrews bagging an absolute cracker of seventy-four pounds. It's easy for spirits to be high when everyone in the group catches fish over twenty pounds, and when everything supports the perfect fishing experience!
Angling Travel offers a supremely well tested trip to India. The main camps stunningly beautiful, very well organised and, considering the location, luxurious - excellent food, large, well furnished log cabins, air-conditioning, hot en suite showers, flush toilets, and traditional tents with their own bathrooms if you prefer, efficient organisation of every aspect of the fishing. . ...India in style. You are in totally safe, experienced hands and that can mean a lot to people who are hesitating about the undertaking of such a big journey.

" Amanda and I loved our first taste of India and Mahseer fishing. No changes suggested. We were extremely lucky to get into so many good fish between the group. 10 out of 10 for The fishing, Help from ghillies, Help from John, Mix of people. Too good for words."
Ian & Amanda Miller
"I was v happy with the way the trip was organised. Thank you."
Albert Hay, Aberdeen
"Excellent! It's not just about catching fish, it's also great to see other people catch them. It was perfect for me. The trip to the top camp was an ambition fulfilled."
Alan Felstead, Little Bardfield
"Thanks so much, Joy - I never expected a fishing trip to change my life - but it has! Thanks John, it was magnificent! Please give my regards to everyone - a great bunch."
Nick Guild, Southend
"Men sitting round a campfire, eating curry and drinking cold beer, recounting tales of leopards and mahseer was about as close to a perfect moment as one could get. Everyone achieved good fish. The sheer pleasure of being there and the group's attitude to collective achievement was outstanding. ... My vague concern that Sarah would miss a few home comforts soon evaporated - the camp was superb, with high standard accommodation facilities. The setting is quite breathtaking! The camp staff were remarkable I enjoyed every waking second - it was so captivating. The ghillies ability on the river and continual effort to help me catch, remain comfortable and enjoy the experience was first class."
John Gilman, High Peak, Derbyshire
"The time I had there was fantastic and the group was brilliant. Everybody caught really good fish!"
Alan Felstead, Little Bardfield
"This trip was really good with plenty of good fish caught by the group - everyone had a good time - thank you for another great holiday and I am already looking forward to next year"
David Lawless, High Peak

Even more reassuring is the fact that each fisherman goes out on the
river with his own highly experienced ghillie in their own coracle. This
is extremely important: hooking a mahseer can be a terrifying business if
you're expected to leap into a foaming river to follow a fleeing fish. It's
not something John would fancy particularly anymore! The great thing about
a coracle is that you can follow a fish - and you don't stop mahseer - in
complete safety. Furthermore, far, far fewer fish are lost this way and no-one
likes to think of a mahseer tethered on a rock or left with a plug or spinner
in its jaw. The fishing is excellent, with mahseer caught in the nineties
last vacation season.
Everything about India is magnificent: the weather, this river valley is beautiful, so peaceful and teems with diverse exotic wildlife, brilliant ghillies, friendly, diligent camp staff, the pace of life, starlit evening drinks by the campfire, early morning tea on your balcony, ...and the constant knowledge that at any second your life can be completely transformed. One bite and your fishing world is blown apart. One battle and you might never be the same fisherman again.
Obviously, there will be more news about India and Nepal as we continue to research
this stunning location but for those of you who've always cherished the mahseer
dream, now is the time for it to be a really brilliantly satisfying option.
You can travel alone or in a fishing holiday group on dates to suit you at any time between
November and March.
